Bonjour ,
At the negotiating table in September, the MSSS’s representatives had left us with the impression that they’d changed their spots, following their derogatory discourse this past spring, but it took no time at all for them to revert to their natural behaviour.
From the first session in October, our counterparts were back again with their contradictory arguments:
- They claimed the care you deliver to patients is so essential and indispensable that the MSSS has “regrettably” to refuse the demands concerning wellness, and even has to restrict the leave you can take.
- They then paradoxically claimed that as you are “mere learners,” your pay cannot be compared with the compensation received by specialized nurse practitioners, clinical nurses, respiratory therapists, or even orderlies, because, unlike residents, those groups “have completed their training.”
The Ministry’s message is clear: you should count yourselves lucky to be receiving a salary. Believe it or not, one MSSS spokesperson even said that although you deliver patient care, that’s true “only in some respects”!
Our most recent bargaining session clearly showed us that continuing to negotiate in the current context will lead us absolutely nowhere. The FMRQ’s Negotiating Committee and our Board of Directors will therefore be consulting your associations’ delegates this coming October 19, at which time decisions will be made concerning tangible action involving mobilization.
Watch this space—we’re going to need your support. Look out for further news on this topic by the end of October.
Stay tuned to your negotiations!
