In 2023, following a comprehensive assessment of the Federation’s carbon footprint over 12 months, we decided not only to offset double the 196 tonnes of pollutant emissions to achieve carbon neutrality, but also to go farther through an additional environmental investment. This was all done via Carbone boréal’s Forestry component, Carbone Scol’ERE educational credits, an investment in the Planetair Global Portfolio, and the Adopte un lac campaign.
In concrete terms, this means: 1381 trees added to Quebec’s forests
These trees were planted through the Forestry component of Carbone boréal, which is both a program to offset greenhouse gases by planting trees and a component of the research infrastructure at UQAC.
We also invested in educational credits under the Carbone Scol’ERE program, which encourages pupils in Grades 4, 5, and 6 and their families to adopt ecoresponsible behaviour in the fight against climate change. One educational carbon credit is equivalent to 1 tonne of CO2 avoided.
We have also reduced our climate footprint by the equivalent of 40 tonnes of CO2 thanks to Gold Standard certified projects included in the Planetair Global Portfolio.
Finally, we invested in the Adopte un lac campaign, whose goal is to contribute to developing knowledge and seeking solutions with respect to cyanobacteria.
