Taking Vacation. How Many Calls Could You Have to Perform During this Rotation Period?

If you take vacation or other leave, the number of calls you may have to perform during your rotation will be reduced.

Normally, the maximum number of calls per rotation period is 6 in an establishment and 9 at home, under the collective agreement.

Should you take leave, your number of calls is reduced IN PROPORTION TO TIME WORKED during the 28-day period in question (Art. 12.20).

Here are two simple examples of how to calculate the number of call periods to be performed:

Example 1

Resident performing calls in an establishment with 1 WEEK’S VACATION during the 28-day period (weekends immediately preceding and following are protected with VACATION).

Number of days available for work = 28 – 9 = 19 days

19 ÷ 28 × 6 = 4.07, so 4 CALLS IN AN ESTABLISHMENT for the 28-day period. But it’s possible for the establishment to add some night call periods in an establishment to this number.

Example 2

Resident performing home call with 5 CONFERENCE/STUDY DAYS during the period (unprotected weekends)

Number of days available for work = 28 – 5 = 23 jours, so 23 ÷ 28 × 9 = 7.39, or 7 CALLS for the 28day period.
